Our AIM

To develop the next generation of AI methods, systems and tools, for the benefit of society and humanity.

Our research is dedicated to methodological and technological advances in human-centred AI. This includes research across different areas of AI, including machine learning, automated reasoning and optimisation. An important focus of our work is on the area of automated AI (including automated machine learning).

As part of the international ADA Research Group, we collaborate closely with the Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS) in the Netherlands and the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada.

Alfred Neuwald Resident Artist

Did you know that, until February 2026, we had the Aachen-based comic artist Alfred Neuwald as an artist-in-residence at our chair? His comic ‘Deus Aix Machina’, which covers our day-to-day life at RWTH Aachen, was published in May 2026.

AI Alliance Aachen

On 20 May 2025, city of Aachen officially founded the AI Alliance Aachen (AAA). Holger Hoos is convinced that AAA provides a promising opportunity to establish even more AI research in the region of Aachen.
